CASE STUDY
Sophie* was 12 when she first needed glasses. Her eyes were healthy, she was a little short sighted. Her mother was very short sighted.
6 months later there had been an increase in her prescription, and it was decided that Sophie try contact lenses. We started with daily soft lenses. Sophie learnt how to apply them and remove them very quickly and was soon successfully wearing them full time.
OrthoK contact lenses were discussed and Sophie was keen to try them. Being able to see during the day without wearing glasses or contact lenses was very appealing to Sophie.
We took all the necessary measurements and ordered the lenses. When they were here we made sure they fit correctly and taught Sophie how to apply, remove and look after them.
We saw Sophie the first morning after the first night of wear. Her prescription had literally disappeared over night. She had no prescription left at all.
Her next appointment was a week later, and then 2 weeks after that. Everything was fine, her prescription was now zero and her eyes were healthy.
Two years later Sophie was starting to notice that her vision was going a little blurry at the end of the day. We found a slight prescription and her lenses were altered accordingly. It wasn’t until 4 years after that, that we had to adjust her lenses again.
Sophie is a classic example of a short-sighted teenager whose prescription was increasing and whom OrthoK contact lenses helped slow down the progression of short sight.
If you have children with short sight, please do get in touch and we can discuss the best options available to stop it getting worse.
